The setting is the beautiful russet colours of autumn which is a time of renewal. The ‘dancing’ male hare has won the boxing match which is a mating ritual between a male and female hare. A single bramble leaf which was kicked up during the fight is now falling slowly. Bramble leaves are part of the hare’s diet during autumn months.
Joanna May is based in Wiltshire, UK and has become well known for her Hare paintings. In 2006 she was invited by the BBC to talk about her work and love of the hare on ‘Spring Watch’.
