The setting is the beautiful russet colours of autumn which is a time of renewal. You get a feeling of energy and movement with the blurring of the background and the boxing match which is a mating ritual between the male and female hare. A single bramble leaf has been kicked up. Bramble leaves are part of the hare’s diet during autumn months.
Joanna May is based in Wiltshire, UK and has become well known for her Hare paintings. In 2006 she was invited by the BBC to talk about her work and love of the hare on ‘Spring Watch’.
