This painting was produced for Joanna’s 2010 solo show held at her gallery in Marlborough, Wiltshire to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Tiger and raise money for tiger conservation through WWF (World Wild Fund for Nature).
The original painting sold at the show for a record price of £15,000.
In the iris of the tiger’s eyes is the wording, Burnt the Fire of Thine Eyes from the poem written by William Blake.
Research for this painting was carried out at the family run zoo on the Isle of Wight where Chris Packham’s partner Charlotte Corney is a Director. Her father Jack Corney was passionate about endangered species and tiger conservation. The William Blake poem was read at his funeral and this painting has a very special meaning to Charlotte.
