This painting was produced for Joannas solo show at The Savoy, London in 2012. The show was titled The Iconic Animals of London Zoo and this painting was inspired by Guy, a Western Lowland Gorilla who arrived at the Zoo on Guy Fawkes Night in 1947, hence the name. He became one of the Zoo’s most loved animals.
The show had a Pop Art theme, a new style Joanna enjoyed integrating into her collection. Pop Art is one of the most popular art movements of the modern era.
The painting in a modern way projects the feeling of the jungle that these animals are fighting to continue to survive in. Guy is looking lovingly out of lush green foliage.
