Summer Cornucopia
The setting is a summer scene of two hares boxing which is part of the male and female hares mating ritual. This blows the myth that boxing only happens between two males. The corn has been kicked up in the boxing match representing fertility and the hare is the fertility goddess in Celtic Belief. Corn is part of the hare’s diet during the summer months.
Joanna May is based in Wiltshire, UK and has become well known for her Hare paintings. In 2006 she was invited by the BBC to talk about her work and love of the hare on ‘Spring Watch’.
