Based on the poem by William Blake the words ’What the Hand Dare Seize the Fire’ are written subtlety in the black stripe of the tiger.
This painting was produced for an exhibition at the Joanna May Studio Gallery in 2010. At this exhibition, Joanna raised money for the tiger for WWF (World Wildlife Fund) and this painting sold for £10,000.
Again TV presenter Chris Packham supported the show. Joanna carried out her research on tigers at Chris’ partner Charlotte Corney’s Conservation and Rescue Zoo on the Isle of Wight.
The tiger in the painting is called Zia and was hand-reared by Charlotte Corney, CEO of the Isle of Wight Zoo.
